You don't take a photograph, you make it.
--Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams and I

Ansel Adams was perhaps the greatest American outdoor photographer. His black and white prints of Yosemiti's El Capitan are some of the finest photos ever taken. As I get more into digital photography I enjoy learning about the pioneers and their craft. In looking at some of the stuff that Adams captured, I realized that we both like a lot of the same subjects, stark solitude and grand nature. I went through my pictures and pulled a few that caught subjects near to where Adams was doing his finest work. My photos are but snapshots in comparison

This page and the ones that follow start with a shot by Adam's, followed by a blurb from me with a few details. With, lastly, a shot by me in the same area of a similiar subject.

McDonald Lake by Ansel Adams

These photos are of Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. A truly wide open and beautiful place. This is as close as one can get to the Canadian Rockies without leaving the US. Glacier is in Montana on the Canadian border.
