Where I Am Not

I do not have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus,  Snapchat, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Instagram. Early on I viewed the internet as a place of leveling the playing field between big media and ordinary folks, of coming together and sharing and seeking common ground; these sites are the opposite of that. They are divisive, they collect large amounts of personal data, they track us across the web and into the real world, and they earn record profits on the back of the content that the user creates. These “social” media companies take your content and lock it into their silo, in essence they steal it; yet it isn’t theft, you give it to them. You give them your content and they take your likes and dislikes , your 24/7 location, and everything else they can divine from your on-line habits and they turn it all into a reified profile that they sell to marketers. The wealthiest companies the world has ever known are simple data miners. As you can see below, I am not opposed to sharing, I am opposed to giving up control of my content.

Where I Share Information

My Blog is on Wordpress, it is very opinionated, mostly rants and raves. It is low volume. My Micro Blog is also on Wordpress, it is mostly links and such that I find of interest. I am in the process of moving my photos from Flickr to this site. I scrobble my music on LastFM. I have another domain at MidMo.US, I am currently using it to distribute some electronic books that I have compiled and (in one case) written.
